30, 2009: HCL Info systems has won an order worth Rs 110 crore from the government of Gujarat. The contract is aimed at speeding development in the tribal districts of Gujarat. As part of the contract, HCL determination supply personal computers (PCs) with biometric finger turn out scanner and UPS to over 7,000 schools across the state. HCL would implement the biometric-based attendance system, offer facility management and run teacher preparation programmes to supply and implement education software effectively at schools.
HCL Infosystems has been chosen to put into practice this project under a transparent model based on public private company, where in the government will keep a close watch on the progress and services delivered. The project will focus on Ashram Shal, Adrashnovasi Shala, Eklavaya, primary and upper most important schools.
The project plans to cover over 7,000 schools in the state with over 1,000 schools under tribal department and over 6,000 schools under education department. The implementation process would at the start take place in two districts out of eight notified tribal districts, comprising of 150 schools each. Once carried out for two months, it will then be extended to all remaining schools.
HCL will also set up helpdesk at each constituency and a project management unit at Gandhinagar, for effective delivery. Beside this, HCL would also be deploying its workforce of engineers in each school, responsible for publication visits for on ground system support.

HCL Infosystems will collaborate with the tribal and tutoring department of Gujarat to facilitate capturing of online attendance data for both students and teachers in schools. Under the existing programmes where the government has been giving grant for schools in the tribal area on the basis of student number present, this system will enable generation of real-time data and effective utilisation of grants for a transparent education system at all levels in the state. The system will also help the government to study education patterns and dropout rates across regions.
