42 Percent of the Mexican population has access to internet
Mexico should establish legislative, economic and regulatory which push it into the technology sector, said the President of Canieti
MÉRIDA, YUCATÁN (08/MAY/2012)-the President of the National Chamber of the electronics industry, of telecommunications and information technology (Canieti), Santiago Gutiérrez Fernández called on Mexico to “get on the boat” technology to be competitive in the international context.
In the framework of a meeting with Yucatecan candidates to the State Government, it stressed that Mexico should establish legislative, economic and regulatory that foster the growth of the technology sector.
This is through the search for mechanisms to enable it to reach the levels facing Asia and Northern Europe.
He gave an example of this are the rates of 11 per cent of connectivity of Mexicans, as well as access to internet which is of 42 per cent of the population, while Asian and European Nations in this last area come to exceed 90 percent.
After establishing the importance of this sector to the national economy, with a turnover that reaches 100 billion dollars a year, he explained that “the backlog creates more backlog and if not it atajamos with a growth more accelerated than we have, we lack the possibility of leaving this backwardness”.
Growth in the past five years in aspects of a digital society has been important, but it has been because we come from a very low base. “Today we have a most important basis and there is where it is critical to preserve the double digit growth rates,” he said.
In the past, he continued, is has grown 10 or 12 percent as a sector, but in 2011 it slowed because already part of a larger base, so the challenge is to maintain double-digit growth levels at least in the next five or more years.
He added that it is vital to achieve this “promote investment, competition, they have more players in the field, should promote a regulation that promotes the development of the high-tech sector”.
He warned that if the State and Mexico-country want to make progress, “we have to get on this ship of technology, before they continue advancing on the high seas and we continue running after him”.
During the meeting with candidates, requested to promote mechanisms for greater coverage technology and telecommunications as well as the development of micro, small and measure technology industry.
Also, promote the use of technology that generates in the attention of various economic social, economic, health needs of the country and States, as well as invest more public resources to this end.
