Modern Communication Technology

Devolo has tested its communication model in the smart grid-based CPL – G3 in collaboration with Vattenfall. Vattenfall Europe Metering acted as a partner of consultation for networks and infrastructure technology. The test sample has stood the test voltage; achieved rates previously have been largely exceeded. Conclusion of this trial? Communication technology narrowband CPL 150 to 500 kHz frequency is ready for the market of intelligent energy networks!

At present, energy networks develop in a decentralized structure, which requires a new form of communication between producers and consumers. In collaboration with Vattenfall Metering Europe, devolo has implemented a viable concept for the communication of data in the smart grid and tested it successfully in a full deployment on the ground. The result: CPL – G3 is an integral part of the connections between energy and data devices smart.

The CPL – G3 already convincing in pre-qualification test

In the smart grid, the CPL – G3 solution is in direct competition with other communication technologies such as GPRS or ADSL IP-based.

“In our screening tests, CPL – G3 technology demonstrated decisive advantages over other technologies. “CPL – G3 has exceptionally good rates, even in systems at lower levels,” says Ronny Stark, project manager at Vattenfall Metering Europe.

Realistic, aroused scenario during the field trials

CPL – G3 technology was previously tested in Vattenfall Hamburg campus in harsh conditions for the transmission of data with many converters and electrical machines. However, hardware and software worked without problem.

The selection of the test area was made under the new legal provisions which prescribe the use of measuring systems for subscribers and users with an annual consumption of more than 6,000 kWh per year. The average in the Germany for this annual use is between 10% and 15%. Therefore, the test included 22 connection objects equipped with the most modern communication technology. This corresponds to approximately 10% of measurement, and between 20 and 30 subscribers users of connection by network location. CPL – 3 G was used for the exchange of data between individual connections. Lines electric low voltage can also be used for IP data transmission. CPL – 3 G is essential in the smart grid, because in modern electrical networks a large amount of data on the supply and use of energy is collected simultaneously.

Proven features

On the ground and to meet requirements of time and cost, the test was conducted on a group of segment. This result demonstrates the cost effectiveness of communication based on CPL. The system test that followed clearly demonstrated by various load simulations that CPL – G3 technology can satisfy the requirements of all current and future smart grid applications. It can even reach data rate much higher than competing CPL technologies.

Ready for the future market for the smart grid.

CPL – G3 technology has demonstrated solid properties during this test. These properties make it a great asset in the future use of the smart grid. “We are satisfied with the test results, which prove the performance capabilities of the PLC technology to low-speed between 150 and 500 kHz in the area of access,” Note Heiko Harbers, CEO of devolo AG. “With Vattenfall Metering Europe, we have a strong partner with which we implement outstanding projects” he continued.

The new component of Olfactor Labs can save lives; the company filed a patent application

A major advance in the fight against malaria and mosquito bites is now possible thanks to a new chemical technology of receptor blockade

Olfactor Laboratories, Inc. has made world class technology through which mosquitoes could be more a distant memory and prepares to put it on the market as early as 2013.

Following an intensive collaboration of two years with the University of California at Riverside, and a multinational sanitation, Olfactor announced that its chemical technology could actually change the lancing behavior of a mosquito. This is potentially a step forward in the fight against diseases transmitted by mosquitoes such as malaria and West Nile virus.

Company scientists have assembled a combination of compounds that may be widespread in space, rather than require a skin application, which can significantly reduce the contact between mosquitoes and humans. The chemical technology disrupts the ability of mosquitoes to detect carbon dioxide, how it detects its prey, like a human.

“Not being able to recognize carbon dioxide limit the ability of the mosquito to locate and feed on its victims”, said Steve Abbott, president of Olfactor Laboratories. “With our technology, human beings can essentially become invisible for the mosquito. “Our search results have the potential to fight against several life-threatening diseases transmitted by mosquitoes, which according to estimates put at risk a large number of the world’s population”, said Mr. Abbott. “Not only the rate of these terrible diseases may be reduced, but life can become more pleasant for all those who love the great outdoors but have horror of mosquito bites,” said Mr. Abbott.

Olfactor technology has recently made to a patent authority and no other company has apparently this unique technology of stimulation of receptor blockade. This technology can be used not only to repel mosquitoes, but also to keep away them from areas, where they can be destroyed more effectively. This makes it a central element of a control strategy “Repel/away.” “Our technology is extremely valuable for Governments around the world, but also for travelers, outdoor enthusiasts and all those who simply do not like mosquito bites.” “Now, an old scourge of several millennia will be reduced, and we welcome requests for collaboration from Governments and companies around the world,” said Amro Albanna, CEO of Innovation Economy, an incubator of companies and partner initial key of Olfactor Labs.

The text of the communiqué of a translation should in no way be regarded as official. The only version of the communiqué that faith is the release in its original language. The translation must always be facing the source text, which landmark.

Technology Program

NASA, in collaboration with the Institute for Human and Machine Cognition (IHMC) of Florida, is working on a new gadget that is already known as X 1 Robotic Exoskeleton. It is an exoskeleton that will allow astronauts overcome the weightlessness and walk through the space in the same way that it would by the Earth’s surface.

But as pointed out Michael Gazarik, director of the NASA space technology program, “what extraordinary space and our work on projects such as the Robonaut, are the unexpected possibilities that may have here on Earth”. And it is that, far from its application in the space, the new invention of the U.S. Space Agency could help people with reduced mobility.

“It’s exciting to see that the technology developed at NASA can help someday people with serious damage that needs help to walk again, or even for the first time.” “This is the kind of return that NASA research can make to American and global society,” commented Gazarik.

Today, the X 1 is in phase of development and research with the sights in the evaluation and improvement of technology. Thus, NASA is considering the possibilities it gives this device to improve the health of the crew aboard the space station and during future missions of long duration.

The goal is, highly efficient transmissions for passenger cars, to develop, to produce and sell commercial vehicles and off-highway applications. The transmission of the next generation to increase fuel economy, reduce emissions and improve the overall performance of the vehicle. Fallbrooks NuVinci CVP technology is licensed to Allison and Dana. With this license agreement, Allison acquires the exclusive right of Fallbrook, its CVP end markets to use – can do this technology for the development and marketing of primary transmissions for Allison’s commercial vehicles, military applications, as well as off-highway equipment and large stationary installations include.

“As a leading global manufacturer of full-automatic transmission for commercial vehicles Allison is obliged to develop new technologies and to implement, which meet the market requirements for improved performance, fuel economy and durability”, says Lawrence E. Dewey, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Allison transmission. “For almost a century, we have the trust of our customers through a consistent commitment to quality, integrity and innovation developed – basic values which are shared by Fallbrook and Dana.” “Our goal is an ideal collaboration for the development of a new technology, optimized for dienächste commercial vehicle generation.”

Fallbrooks patented NuVinci CVP technology is an award-winning, traction-based class of continuously variable transmissions, which are scalable and highly adaptable. It controls the relationship between speed and torque and is suitable for mechanical devices that have a transmission or can benefit from speed or torque fluctuations. The NuVinci transmission uses a set of rotating balls between the input and output components of a transmission. Tipped balls, change their contact diameters and the speed ratio. “In comparison, Fallbrooks analysis shows that its NuVinci technology is less complex, easier scalability to other current transmission technologies and bundle can be caused less production costs and simplifies achieving optimal performance”, so Allison.
